Dexter Scott King, the third child of the late Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, died on January 22, 2024, at the age of 62 after battling prostate cancer. He was named after an Alabama church where his father served as pastor and was 7 years old when his father was assassinated in April 1968 while supporting Tennessee. Dexter King went on to attend Morehouse College in Atlanta and worked as chairman of the King Center, where he devoted his life to perpetuating his father’s legacy and protecting the intellectual property. He was also president of the King estate. Dexter King was known for the striking resemblance he bore to his father and even portrayed him in a 2002 TV movie. His death comes after the death of his mother in 2006 and his sister Yolanda King in.
